International Women’s Day – LiveAction

The first observation of International Women’s Day was organized over 100 years ago in New York City. It slowly spread around the world and has been used as a day of action for women to gain suffrage, equal rights and show solidarity with other women around the world.

This International Women’s Day, we decided to ask the women who power LiveAction to share their own utopian vision for a future where gender is never an obstacle to achievement.

Here’s what they had to say:

I want to see a world where I don’t have to be a ‘girl boss’ or a ‘she-E-O’, how about I’m just the boss. period?

No matter where one starts early in life, or even later into adulthood, women should be allowed to dream a dream, change their dreams, or pursue new dreams without their worth being challenged or their knowledge and ability being questioned.

Ideally, women would not have to put their careers on the back burner to make family a priority.

I’d like to see a future where I don’t have to fear what might happen to me / my career / my work if I ever get pregnant / have children.

Women should have every equal opportunity and always be taken seriously.

A better future for professional women starts with encouraging young girls to think big!

I want to see an equal playing field for everyone. No one would have to check a box on the application specifying their gender, ethnicity, religion, etc. We’re all human beings and that should be enough.

To be taken seriously, having a female mentor, a safe environment where you are encouraged/supported to take risks and step out of your comfort zone to grow, and definitely having a good support system at home.

I have never wanted to be recognized because I accomplished something “as a woman” but rather that every position I have risen to has been due to the fact that I am really good at what I do – I was the best person for the job. The fact that I happen to be a woman shouldn’t matter. That is how opportunity should be. Equally available to all. As our LiveAction theme for International Women’s Day this year states, “Empowered women, empower women.”

Happy International Women’s Day. Empowered women, empower women! Let’s strive for equality until all our sisters here and globally arrive.
