The 2018 Gartner Report, 2018 Strategic Roadmap for Networking

The 2018 Gartner Report, “2018 Strategic Roadmap for Networking” features critical industry insights about impacts to the network driven by digital-first business requirements.

Enterprise network and IT leaders are moving more and more infrastructure from on-premise to the cloud, and more of the intelligence to software from hardware.

“By 2021, more than 65% of WAN edge infrastructure refresh initiatives will be based on software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) versus traditional routers, up from less than 30% as of 2Q18.”*

  • NetOps teams are continuing to move away from command line interface (CLI). According to Gartner, “by 2020, only 40% of network operations teams will use the command line interface (CU) as their primary interface, down from 75% at 2Q18.”*
  • Optimize network performance through analytics. “Network analytics coupled with intent-based networking enable dynamic optimization.”*

The future state of networking must support the interaction of people, businesses, and things. Gaining visibility and assurance that the network is supporting what the business intends is a critical success factor for every digital-first business.
